ABOUT US
History

CMA Corporation Limited can trace its origins back to 1973. Its prior operating entities have established strong reputations as competent, professional, innovative and successful operators with a clear vision to form a modern and leading recycling and demolition group with an international footprint.

The establishment of CMA has involved bringing together various trading personnel handling scrap metal movements from all around the world, demolition, decommissioning and remediation groups with those that have years of operational experience in ingot manufacturing and foundry operations into a consolidated publicly listed group. Added to that have been a number of scrap metal recycling yards from a number of states in Australia and New Zealand working under different names within the banner of CMA Corporation.

In July 2007, CMA acquired Southern Rocycling, which represented a significant milestone for CMA and substantially expanded our national footprint and recycling processing capabilities. Their professional approach to the metal recycling industry and its strong image and corporate branding has driven us to follow that model and in November 2007 we announced our new mark and business name to take us forward as a combined business unit.

This vision has helped the group to rapidly expand its operations and to build a significant and unique position in the recycling and demolition industry. CMA has shown, and continues to show, an innovative approach to recycling and processing of various scrap metal arisings from our group of companies into value-added products for industry.

Today, a network of over 31 recycling facilities in Australia, Asia and North America, and a workforce of more than 600 staff enable CMA to recycle all metals in efficient and productive yards all around the globe.

Our unique vertically integrated business model enables us to offer a comprehensive service covering the recycling, demolition, processing and reuse; a complete cradle to grave service.

Since its inception, CMA has grown strongly through strategic acquisitions, and we continues to expand our geographical presence on an international scale. We have acquired Peakmore Enterprise, a Singapore-based processor and trader of secondary metals. This, together with a slag recycling facility in Malaysia, has significantly increased our trading and processing presence in the Asian region. The acquisition of the Meretec dezincing plant in the USA has given CMA a strong foothold in the burgeoning North American market and offers a great opportunity to expand into other overseas markets.

The group’s decision in November 2007 to enter into a shareholding agreement with Transpacific Industries, the largest waste recycling group in Australia and New Zealand, is a further important strategic step to strengthen our position as a key player in the international recycling industry. Not only is Transpacific a great partner, but the negotiated agreement reached, delivers in excess of 40,000 tons of steel scrap into our group as well as around 6,000 tons of non ferrous metals.

CMA has methodically built and developed its network of metal recycling and processing operations with strong contract capabilities which provides the group with an outstanding platform to serve its loyal customer base and allows further growth.

Our group is highly committed to the processing and recycling of potentially useful scrap and waste materials through resale, which help to reduce the consumption of finite raw materials and energy, and contribute to a better environment through responsible recycling.

As it's been well said:

"The first ton of steel was made from ore - some day the last ton of steel will be made entirely from scrap."
